It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice. Rx is the symbol for prescription (it is Latin for recipe). After discovering something about the true nature of human beings, I decided to create this webpage and share this great news with everyone. Have you ever wondered where you came from? Have you ever wondered why you are here when some day you will die? Have you ever wondered where you go after you die? Some may say to just ignore these things so you can do more important things like work a job, pay taxes and drink alcohol. But maybe your true self, which has these answers, wants you to find it, to uncover it and discover it.
Bill Gates (the richest man in the world) is getting out of the computer business. He is getting into the hobby of helping people using his intelligence and resources. He is learning what this page is talking about. Now haven't you ever wished that you had the money to buy something nice, that you could not afford, especially with many things online for sale? Well Mr. Gates has that money. So he could be spending his time buying things with the money he has earned. But I guess this extremely intelligent man figures that he can get more happiness helping others than by doing lots of shopping. Here is later news. The 2nd richest man in the world, Warren Buffet, is giving all his money ($36 billion) to Bill Gate's foundation. Brad Pitt is trying to wipe out poverty in the world.
The movie, Lady in the Water says "Man thinks they're each alone in the world. It is not true. You are all connected." When I was young I was looking for answers to the above. My mother told me that a good friend of hers also searched for these answers but could not find them, so I should not even look. I am glad that I did not listen to her. First I will cover a message from the most famous person in the Western world-- Jesus Christ.
If there were a religion created based on the teachings of Jesus, what would it look like? Some think it would look like the Christian religion. But think about it. In our society if someone opens a porn shop who is most likely to give them trouble and judge them? Would it be Jewish people, Buddhists, atheists or kind and considerate people? No! It would be the Christians. There was even a Christian who would go to the University of Penn. campus and preach to people. But he would verbally abuse some women by calling them sluts and other things, judging them by how they are dressed or if they were holding hands with another woman.
But Jesus said
things like judge ye not unless ye be judged, let he who is without sin
throw the first stone or you look for slivers in other's eyes when you
have logs in your own eyes. The basic message of Christians is not
that Jesus taught. Jesus did not say that because of a mistake that
and Eve made, all mankind was cursed and He would die so the curse on
would be over.
At the end of the movie, The Da Vinci Code, Tom Hanks says "maybe human is divine." So that is the basis of this. A possibility that human is divine. The Hebrew scriptures (Old Testament) spend a great deal of time explaining when and how to punish people. This may be of great help when creating new societies. But Jesus rebelled against this and taught people to forgive others instead, hence the saying "turn the other cheek." The basic message of Jesus was not that He was going to die to get rid of the Adam and Eve curse. So what was it? We can use the process of elimination.
Did He tell people to love a certain building or place like a temple? No. Did He tell people to love a certain idea and kill other people who are against it? No. Did He tell people to love or worship a certain book? No. He said "Love thy neighbor." Did He say "Love thy neighbor if they are good in your judgment and they have the same beliefs as you?" No. Did He teach that the sacred or holy thing on this planet was a book, place, building, belief or chalice (cup)? No.
He taught that the holy or sacred thing on this planet is the human being. But people were searching for the Holy Grail (cup or dish used by Jesus). Well, search no further. The true world treasure can be found by you looking in the mirror. It is you. And this is the one thing on this entire planet that deserves love and respect, the human being. That was the basic message of Jesus.
There are some modern day sayings like "Those who know, do. Those who don't know, teach." Then there is one, "Talk is cheap." Another is "Actions speak louder than words." Now you can ask any medical doctor or anthropologist if Jesus was a fish, camel, tree, a wheel or a human being. They will tell you that He was a human being. So besides teaching this outrageous notion that a human being is divine, He lived it. He demonstrated what He was teaching with His life and actions. This is by far the harder thing to do. Did Jesus say that He was the light of the world and no one else?
Some people are concerned about mistranslations of the bible so here are several of them. Jesus said the following to His disciples according to the King James Version, (Matthew 5:14) "Ye are the light of the world...." In The Jerusalem Bible, He says "You are the light of the world...." In New International Version (NIV), He says "You are the light of the world...." In the New American Bible (NAB), He says "You are the light of the world...."
Jesus says (Matthew 7:1) "Do not judge, or you too shall be judged." Jesus says (Matthew 7:3) " Why look at the speck in your brother's eye when you miss the plank in your own." Jesus says (Matthew 7:12) (NAB) "Treat others the way you would have them treat you: this sums up the law and the prophets." In NIV "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." Also in (NIV) Matthew 5:38, it says " If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also." Now doesn't this sound excessive to you, unless the human being is divine.
Instead of me putting up a list of how we should treat others, you can create a list of how you would like others to treat you. Then you could follow that on how to treat others. This needs to begin and end with you. You are not really doing this for others but for yourself. If you help someone thinking that you are doing it for him, it will make you resent helping him if he treats you badly. Jesus taught to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
The reason that you do this is not for the other person but for you. By doing this, it opens doors and helps you to discover the incredible beauty that is inside of you. By hurting others, it closes doors for you making it harder to feel your true nature which is perfect peace, endless love and unlimited happiness and way beyond that. It is better to help strangers that you may never see again. By helping friends and relatives, you may be doing it expecting something back from it. Some call helping strangers, random acts of kindness. When someone is treating you badly, they are giving you their good luck. So enjoy this gift. If you treat them badly, you are giving your good luck to them.
There is a new psychology called Positive Psychology. You can read about it in a book called Authentic Happiness (© 2002) by Martin E.P. Seligman, Ph.D. He is the Fox Leadership Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, the director of the Positive Psychology Network and the former president of the American Psychological Association. Among the 20 books he wrote are Learned Optimism and The Optimistic Child. Andrew Weil, M.D. says "Martin Seligman is the leading spokesman for the new movement of Positive Psychology, which focuses on mental health rather then mental illness."
He teaches how it is better to focus on increasing happiness instead of getting rid of mental problems. It tells about a study they did in a class where they had people go out and have fun. They came back and reported their results. They enjoyed themselves. No surprise there. Then they went out and did altruistic acts where they help other people. They came back and reported the results. They had life changing experiences. One guy decided to change his major in college due to it. So that is something you can do to help yourself.
The cover story
of Time Magazine January 17, 2005 is about Dr.
Seligman and the
group he put together (which includes Dr. Edward Diener-- AKA Dr
to form the Positive Psychology Network. The article is called The
Science of Happiness.
So the message of this is all about how amazing you are. But this true nature that is inside of you, is inside of everyone. The more you can feel it inside yourself, the more you can see it inside of others. The more you can see it in others, the more you can feel it inside of yourself. This is what is important, feeling it inside yourself. This is what you are here to do. To discover, by experiencing it, how wonderful you really are. But this is not talking about your ego which wants to be better than everyone else. It is about your true self which is inside of everyone. It helps only a little, hearing that you are the treasure that you are looking for. You need to discover it for yourself.
The ego cares about what others think about it. This is a major reason that it suffers so much. While you are identified with it, you feel this suffering and pain. If you watch a movie and identify with a character in it, when something bad happens to that character, you feel the pain. But you are not really that character. Even though you identify with your ego, it is not you. You are, in reality, something so incredible that it is beyond your wildest imagination. People are good at imagining things. People can imagine what it is like to be like superman, but cannot imagine their true self which is much more awesome.
But what you really are is beyond the comprehension of the mind which is good at comprehending the physical world. What you really are is so profound that nothing you do in the physical world can increase your greatness. Also there is nothing that you can do to diminish your greatness. Darth Vader (a character in Star Wars ) destroyed an entire planet filled with millions of people, killing all of them. But in the end, he was the hero who redeemed (to redeem-- get back, recover) himself by saving his son's life and destroying the evil emperor.
People can learn the hard way or the easy way that the way you treat others has a big impact on how you feel about yourself. If you do not like being told that a book is more important than you, maybe it is because the book can be easily destroyed but you cannot be. You are eternal. When you identify with the ego and all its pain, you do not want to be eternal. But it is not eternal. You are eternal (your true self) and are, in reality, in eternal peace and total satisfaction.
The good news is the above about what you really are. The bad news is that for some people, this true nature is buried under a lot of stuff. So try to be aware of this when people treat you badly. But keep this in mind. If you commit a crime in America, it is not your brother, father, mother, grandparent or best friend that pays for it. It is you who pays for it. In the same way when someone treats you badly, they are not hurting you at all in what is important (finding your way back home to what you really are), they are only hurting themselves. Now if you treat them badly in return (an eye for an eye) than you are only hurting yourself, not them. That is why Jesus gave that advice about turning the other cheek.
Since what you really are is so wonderful, there is nothing that is too terrible in this world to happen if it can help you to find this true nature. In the end it is worth it, but along the way you may feel like nothing is worth what is happening to you. But it is like what Curly of The Three Stooges said. He went into a restaurant and said "give me two rotten eggs and burnt toast. "The waiter says "OK, but why?" Then Curly says " Well I have a tapeworm and that is good enough for him." So the pain that you feel is happening to something that is not you, even if you are identified with it. It is a terrible thing (this false identity) since it prevents you from feeling what you really are-- your true nature, which, unlike Superman, is way beyond any suffering and misery.
Part of this false identity is the thing most important to people and that is their beliefs. If someone says that God is the most important thing to him and if anyone says differently he will kill them, that is his belief. If someone says that money is the most important thing to them, it is their belief in this that is important. If someone says that their wife is the most important thing to them, it is their belief. The bottom line is to allow people to have beliefs that are different than yours and not judge them for it. What happened 9/11/01 was due to religious intolerance.
The amount of love and respect that people have for others, is a reflection of have much love and respect that they have for themselves. So by experiencing and feeling how magnificently divine and profound that you are, causes you to treat others kindly. Trying to treat others better and helping others, helps you to love yourself more (not your ego, but your true self). Your ego exists in time. Your body exists in space. These are the qualities of the physical universe. Your true self exists outside of time and space.
Maybe you have been told something that is the most important thing in the universe. But the most important thing is feeling this heaven that is you. The whole universe is waiting for you to discover what you really are. In the NIV bible, Jesus says (Luke 17:21) " The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say 'Here it is' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you."
There is a Jewish story. A heavenly guide was showing this guy around. Everywhere he looked, he saw people studying the Talmud (Jewish holy book). So he said to the guide "it looks like everyone in heaven is a scholar." The guide said "You misunderstand. It is not that the scholars are in heaven. It is heaven that is in the scholars."
In the movie, The Matrix, Neo is the one, but has not realized it yet. Then the Oracle (oracle-- wise person) told him that he was not the one so he thought that he was not the one. But eventually he did realize that he is the one. So the universe is waiting for you to realize what you are, so you can be in eternal peace.
Each person has their own ego and each one is unique. What you really are, deep down, is your true self and this is what you are looking for so desperately. But there is only one true self that exists and it is inside everyone that you see. So every person shares the same true self. Jesus was showing people that they should find their true self like He did. But it is easier to just love and worship someone else so that is what they did with Jesus. When you fall in love with someone else, you are feeling much closer to this true self since you both share the same one. You feel that the two of you belong together.
Then the person
rejects you or dies and now you are feeling terrible since you were
closer to that true self and now you are much further away from it. You
feel like the other person was the one way to feel it and now you
So I agree that it is much, much easier to feel your true self in
else than find it in yourself, but then you can also lose it. It is
much more work to find that true self inside of yourself but then you
lose it. As the saying goes, you love seeing yourself through that
person's eyes. It causes you to love yourself more and see how
really are. But if this person then strongly rejects you, then you feel
want to be dead.
Some may doubt that an experience of perfect peace exists for the human being while alive. But psychologists have known about this experience for many years. It is called the flow experience. There are a few books on it like Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience (© 1990) by Dr. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (last name pronounced "cheeks sent me high"). Dr. Seligman calls him "one towering figure in the social sciences." Dr. Seligman describes the flow like this: "When does time stop for you? When do you find yourself doing exactly what you want to be doing, and never wanting it to end? Is it painting, or making love, or playing volleyball, or talking before a group, or rock climbing, or listening sympathetically to someone else's troubles?"
The back of the book, Flow, says "These investigations have revealed that what makes experience genuinely satisfying is a state of consciousness called flow-- a state of concentration so focused that it amounts to absolute absorption in an activity." Note the use of the word 'absolute' which is also used to denote a supreme being. In more common terms it is referred to as being in the moment. There is a classic book on spirituality called Be Here Now. Since psychologists are describing it, you know that no one religion has a patent on it. They talk about people having an experience of time stopping and slowing down. But they still have a lot to learn about it. It can happen to different degrees including to an infinite degree. Also a person does not have to be doing anything to feel this.
As a teenager I would experience this flow experience while playing volleyball. If you are a teenager maybe you should try volleyball. I also felt the flow to a lesser degree playing soccer. I also spent a lot of time reading about science, religion and psychology. I would feel that flow to a lesser degree while reading. Even if I played volleyball all day without eating and I was asked if I want to stop, I would still say "no." I would continue playing until I passed out (that never happened). This sounds like Americans and the home page of this site is about losing weight. So I knew that in this experience I was totally satisfied so if I could play volleyball non-stop for the rest of eternity, then that would be the ultimate thing. Actually even though I could feel it during the whole game, I would pass in and out of feeling it to the infinite degree. It was really very little of the time that I felt it to the infinite degree but the effects lasted.
But this experience can be felt anytime even when someone is doing nothing. Also this experience can also be felt to the infinite degree all of the time, without interruption. Now the psychologists have probably never entertained this thought, but Jesus felt this all the time. Or to use above terminology, He was in that state of consciousness all the time, but to the infinite degree. If you have not figured this out yet or have never felt this experience to the infinite degree, there is absolutely no fear or worry, but there is a feeling of perfect peace. You could even say that there is a total faith and trust regardless of your beliefs during this state of consciousness.
When I was done playing volleyball I still retained some of that great feeling from it. Although I had been practicing yoga and martial arts since age 12, which both increase concentration and patience. Yoga is great for people since you can do it alone, like for people who feel that they are all alone. Bikram's yoga (see book below) is very therapeutic and at Bikram's studio there are pictures of him with President Bill Clinton, John McEnroe, Madonna and many other celebrities.
For decades, I have been practicing a powerful type of meditation which has been referred to as the "infallible technique to improve human behavior" that is free of charge. Doing this meditation has enabled me to experience more and more of this inner self every year. Here is the link to learning about this meditation (www.wordsofpeace.org). If you are having difficulty with depression, click on "Natural Healing" and then see "Mental Issues." Actually everyone should see that page which has diet and lifestyle suggestions to greatly improve mental health and an awesome story to inspire people. Make sure to read the short article: What is Enlightenment. "Even in your darkest hour, I will not abandon you."
