Blackstrap Molasses Health Benefits

See our privacy policy. Blackstrap molasses is a healthy sweetener. It is what is removed from the sugar cane to make sugar. Sugar has no nutrition in it. All of the nutrition is in the blackstrap molasses. It is the highest food source of potassium. A tablespoon of molasses has 340 milligrams (mg) of potassium. But a tablespoon of organic blackstrap molasses has 720 mg of potassium in it. More potassium in the diet can help with high blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems.

It also is a good source of chromium that is needed by the body to digest sugar. So when you eat sugar, the body has to rob the body of nutrients, like chromium, to digest the sugar. The sugar is sold in the store which is short for the fat and sick food store. The blackstrap molasses is sold in the health food stores. A lady on the internet said that a teaspoon of it "completely cured episodes of annoying and painful leg cramps I had experienced for years!" Cramps can be caused by too little potassium.

Many claim that it can help with constipation, but if you are getting constipated then something is wrong with your diet. There are also claims that it can help turn your grey hair back to its original color. I have also heard of this claim with the cats claw inner bark herb.

Chromium is needed to metabolize sugar. Sugar has no chromium in it since it was taken out. Sugar has no vitamins or minerals in it, only calories. So it needs to rob the body of chromium and it is said that this leads to weight gain and diabetes. So they suggest you get some inorganic chromium in a supplement.

A tablespoon of blackstrap molasses has over 100% of the RDA (recommended daily allowance) of chromium. It is better to avoid anything with sugar added to it (not talking about sugar in foods like fruits and vegetables), but if you cannot avoid it, then taking blackstrap molasses will help to minimize the damage from it. It also tastes good adding it to sweet potatoes or Cream of Wheat-- the hot wheat cereal.

Get the unsulphured kind since added sulfur is very bad for health. The British nutritionist, Cyril Scott, wrote a book about molasses. He has claimed success in using it to turn grey hair back to its original color and success in using to help with anemia, rheumatism, arthritis, ulcers, colitis, varicose veins and benign tumors. Also ulcers, dermatitis, hair damage, eczema, psoriasis, angina pectoris, and nervous conditions may also respond to supplementing the diet with mineral-rich molasses.
